Burial to score new Harmony Korine film Baby Invasion

Renowned musician Burial is scheduled to produce the score for Harmony Korine’s upcoming film “Baby Invasion,” which is set to debut at the Venice Film Festival next month. The film is described as a dystopian thriller based on a home invasion and features a unique twist. As staged as a first-person shooter, audiences can expect an “ultra-realistic, multiplayer FPS game” that follows a group of mercenaries using AI-generated baby faces as avatars to conceal their identity, according to IndieWire.

Produced via Korine’s multimedia design collective EGLRD, the film includes gaming technology and AI, allowing audiences some autonomy over the narrative, enabling them to remix the storyline. The soundtrack marks Burial’s second venture into producing movie soundtracks, following his recent contribution to Andrea Arnold’s compelling 2024 drama “Bird,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

Burial’s work on “Baby Invasion” comes after his recent release of the surprise two-track EP “Phoneglow / Eyes Go Blank” with Kode9 on Hyperdub in June. The collaboration came as a surprise to many music enthusiasts and demonstrates Burial’s commitment to experimentation and charting unfamiliar territories.

Given his exceptional skills, Burial’s soundtrack is expected to be a game-changer for the film industry, and fans of his work eagerly anticipate the new score. Overall, this shows there is no stopping Burial in creating extraordinary music and testing out new avenues
