Karen O and Danger Mouse have released their latest single ‘Super Breath’ – marking the first new music from the duo since 2019. The opening of the song features a pulsing bassline and chilling synth melody, accompanied by Karen O’s lyrics: “quit playin’ cool / push me aside / I die each time / I’m not your fool,” which describe the emotional state of unfulfilled love. The announcement also accompanies news of a reissue of their 2019 LP ‘Lux Prima’, which will feature the single as well as a previously recorded cover of Lou Reed’s ‘Perfect Day’ as the B-side.
The reissue of ‘Lux Prima’, scheduled for release on September 19, will additionally include a 16-page booklet highlighting the Encounter with Lux Prima immersive listening event at the Marciano Arts Foundation and a 7″ pressing of ‘Super Breath’. Fans can already pre-order the album through this link.
Speaking to NME about how significant music plays in their lives, Karen O and Danger Mouse shared that “Music is my fucking church. I don’t prescribe to any religion or whatever – music is what gets me through the ups and downs of life, both making it and listening to it.” Reviewing ‘Lux Prima’, NME described the album as intergalactic utopia, where listeners are transported through the final track that features a glacial string line accompanied by electronic burbles like the distant chatter of extra-terrestrials.
In unrelated news, the guitarist of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Nick Zinner, joined Iggy Pop during his California No Values Festival set last month to play some Stooges rarities
