A British soldier has been hospitalized for serious injuries after being stabbed in Kent. The soldier, who is in his 40s according to police, was attacked near his home while in uniform on Tuesday evening. A defence source has confirmed the news to BBC. The police received a call at about 17:55 BST in Sally Port Gardens, Gillingham, and arrived at the scene shortly after. A 24-year-old man was arrested just 25 minutes later on suspicion of attempted murder.
Kent police have confirmed that the victim is being treated for stab wounds at the hospital and is in serious condition. An Army statement refers to the site of the attack as Chatham, which is near Gillingham. The statement reads, “We’re very sorry to confirm that a soldier has sustained serious injuries in an attack in Chatham, Kent. Our thoughts are with the soldier and their family and we request that their privacy is respected at this difficult time. We will continue to work closely with Kent Police to understand what happened and support the investigation. Anyone who witnessed the attack or who has any relevant information should contact Kent Police.”
A Kent Police spokesperson has stated that a cordon is currently in place around the site, and further investigations are ongoing. Residents have been advised to be prepared for an ongoing police presence in the area. The investigation team appeals to anyone having relevant information on the case to come forward.
