Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, has dropped a new music video for his song ‘Lithonia’. The video, directed by Jack Begert and starring a variety of faces, was shared with fans in private links earlier in the week before being made live for everyone to watch.
Glover’s latest offering comes as the first from his last album under the Childish Gambino alias – ‘Bando Stone and The New World’. The album, also a soundtrack for the upcoming film of the same name, was released over the weekend and follows Glover’s recent announcement that he would be retiring the Childish Gambino moniker.
The video begins with a relatively still and calm scene of Glover and his band playing together before it takes a darker turn. Though unsettling, it perfectly encapsulates the eerie and introspective message within the music.
‘Bando Stone and The New World’ has garnered praise for its otherworldly sound and style, though it has also faced some criticism over a lack of coherence and clear theme compared to Glover’s previous works.
Glover has been open in the past regarding his desire to retire Childish Gambino, claiming the persona is no longer fulfilling for him. He has expressed a desire to focus on personal projects and family following the birth of his children and the loss of his father
