Ryan Reynolds has shared a video on Instagram stories showing a baker creating a 10ft-tall sculpture of Marvel superheros Deadpool and Wolverine. Lara Mason from Walsall took over 120 hours to make the cake, which was inspired by the Dirty Dancing lift. The cake used almost 300kg of ingredients and was made by using leftover sponges from customer orders. The sculpture was created by using an airbrush pen to sculpt the characters into shape.
Mrs Mason has previously created similar sculptures of an array of different celebrities, such as Queen Elizabeth II, Spiderman and Ed Sheeran. Her most complicated cake design yet, she said it was a “fun challenge” to make. Mrs Mason shares videos of her baking creations on TikTok and Facebook, where her followers tagged Ryan Reynolds in the comments.
The videos of her making the edible creation have been viewed almost 6 million times. Mrs Mason was stunned to see a comment on Monday saying that the Canadian actor had shared her video on Instagram. Mrs Mason and her husband had to winch the Deadpool cake on top of the Wolverine cake in order to recreate the Dirty Dancing pose, saying it was “the super complicated part”. The baker made the cake to celebrate the release of the superhero film Deadpool & Wolverine on Thursday.
Her latest sculpture is her tallest yet, beating her previous record of Taylor Swift lifting the Superbowl trophy which she completed in February. “I’ve never been more proud of a cake,” said Mrs Mason. All her cakes are created sustainably by using leftover sponges from customer orders, which are then covered in chocolate ganache and modelling chocolate.
Altogether, the cakes create an extraordinary sight and the video shared on Instagram clearly shows a masterpiece that required great skill and patience to create. Mrs Mason said that sculpting people is what she loves doing the most and making this artistic creation was a really fun challenge for her; and her huge following on social media clearly agrees
