Kevin Feige, the producer of Marvel, has offered a new update on the forthcoming Blade reboot, featuring Mahershala Ali as the titular half-vampire. Speaking in an interview with BlackTree TV, Feige suggested that the studios would learn from how they handled Deadpool and Wolverine. The release of the film has suffered delays, with the film having been first announced in 2019, but it’s expected to come out next year.
Feige said, “Because there were some great Blade movies years ago — they were all rated-R. So I think that’s, like Deadpool, inherent with the character of Blade.” Referring to the long wait and ever-shifting team, Feige suggested that such care was required, warning, “the most important thing for us is not rushing it and making sure we are making the right Blade movie.”
The film has harbored problems, however, as director Yann Demange was the second director to exit the project. Mogul Mowgli’s Bassam Tariq, who was the original director, also departed from the film in 2022 just weeks before filming was due to commence. The script has been developed by at least five writers so far, with Michael Green, Logan, and Alien Covenant writer, among them.
Disney CEO Bob Iger has recently confirmed that only three new Marvel movies each year will come out. Two MCU series will be released as well. Four MCU films are scheduled to hit theaters in 2025, including Brave New World of Captain America, Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four, and Blade. Another four are planned for 2026, including the Avengers’ fifth film. The lower output is thought to change after Disney’s recent box office disappointments, including the lowest opening of any MCU film since 2008s The Incredible Hulk with The Marvels and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
