UK telecoms firm BT has been fined £17.5m ($23.4m) by regulator Ofcom, following last year’s failure of the company’s emergency service call handling system. Over a 10-hour period in June 2016, 14,000 emergency calls were not connected due to a network fault, with Ofcom subsequently finding BT “ill-prepared” to respond to the problem.
