Shannen Morgan and Shane Roller have been identified as the couple who died in a collision between their Ford Focus car and a motorbike on a road in rural West Yorkshire. The incident also resulted in the death of two young girls who were passengers in the car and the two people on the motorbike. The collision took place on the A61 which remains closed between Warren Lane and Shaw Lane. Police officers continue to investigate the crash, and flowers have been left beside a wall near where the road is blocked.
Callum Roller, brother of Shane, expressed his grief in a social media post, saying that his heart had been “ripped into a million pieces.” Jamie Phillips, who left flowers at the scene, spoke fondly of the deceased, describing Shane as cheerful and always smiling, and saying that he was a “normal, working lad” devoted to his family.
Ms Morgan and Mr Roller lived in the Athersley area of Barnsley, and Mr Roller worked for a local takeaway restaurant as a delivery driver. A friend of Ms Morgan paid tribute to the couple on Facebook, saying that there were “no words to describe the utter loss this has created for family and friends and the community around us.”
Dan Jarvis, MP for Barnsley North and the area’s Security Minister, described the incident as “devastating news.” Meanwhile, Supt Alan Travis of West Yorkshire Police offered condolences to the families of the victims and appealed for witnesses to come forward
