Jade Thirlwall’s new single, ‘Angel of My Dreams’, which was released on July 19, features a track co-written by Phil Coulter in 1967 that’s currently experiencing a renaissance. Sandie Shaw’s ‘Puppet on a String’ was sampled in Thirlwall’s debut solo single, which has been receiving widespread acclaim. The song was co-written by Coulter, whose contributions to music have been recognized with five Ivor Novello awards.

Bill Martin, Coulter’s songwriting partner, worked with Coulter on ‘Puppet on a String’, which garnered popularity as a result of Shaw winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1967. Coulter expressed his surprise and astonishment at finding out that his work was sampled in Thirlwall’s single, stating that he was not in contact with Little Mix or the current culture zeitgeist. Coulter became aware of Thirlwall’s single through members of his family, who told him that it was a great hit.

Coulter expressed his admiration for the current hot-shot producer creating music with Thirlwall. Coulter stated that he’s not involved in the process of sampling ’60s songs. He believes that the producer, in collaboration with Thirlwall, decided to add ‘Puppet on a String’ to set the tone and mood for the song. Additionally, Coulter has become a fan of Thirlwall’s work and has been promoting her to his friends and acquaintances.

Coulter’s children and grandchildren will be pleased to hear about their father and grandfather’s participation in the new hit, which could position him as a cool and trendy music producer. Coulter’s past collaborations with prominent musicians such as Sinéad O’Connor, Cliff Richard, and Boyzone have solidified his profile as a household name among music lovers. Coulter continues to collaborate with other musicians and vows to remain active in the music industry
