During BST Hyde Park this year, Robbie Williams and Danny Dyer delighted fans with their unexpected rendition of ‘Parklife’. Dyer took on the Cockney lines originally performed by Phil Daniels while Williams delivered the singing parts. Recently, Damon Albarn shared his thoughts on the cover during an interview with BBC Breakfast. He spoke about his love for Danny Dyer after watching his episode of Who Do You Think You Are?, in which Dyer discovered he is related to King Edward III. Albarn praised the discovery as a “true revelation” and said, “He’s definitely from the East End, he’s a Cockney, we’re all Cockney.” Albarn went on to say, “It’s a song for us, it’s good. I hope everyone has their own version.”
Danny Dyer, too, has spoken out about the performance. Speaking on Radio X, he expressed surprise when Williams approached him about the opportunity to perform the song. However, he noted that he loves the song and that he and Williams nailed the performance. He added that he listened to the song often to prepare and that he channelled his inner Phil Daniels for the performance.
In the meantime, the new director of Blur’s movie ‘To The End’, Toby L, has acknowledged high stress during the early days of production. By taking steps to maintain authenticity, he worked hard to deliver an innovative take on the band’s newest journey.
