Halsey says Britney Spears gave her blessing to release ‘Lucky’

Singer Halsey has received permission from Britney Spears to sample her early 2000’s hit ‘Lucky’ as part of her upcoming single of the same name. Halsey first teased the track earlier this month by sharing a photograph of herself wearing a Lucky t-shirt and spoke about Britney’s influence on her music. The new song utilises the iconic chorus from ‘Lucky’ but recreates it from a first-person perspective. A preview of the song has been shared online and will be released in full on 26th July.

Halsey disclosed on a recent radio show that she had communicated with Britney Spears and gained her approval of the song. Spears’ 2000 single was the second from her album ‘Oops! I Did It Again’ and is about a famous and seemingly successful actress who feels unfulfilled in her personal life.

Halsey’s latest single, ‘Lucky’, follows on from the release of ‘The End’, which the singer said was written after surviving a difficult period of ill-health due to Lupus and T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder, conditions that she will likely have for the rest of her life. Despite this, the artist is looking forward to releasing her new album, which she has revealed will be “all over the place” and “full of experimentation”.

Fans of Halsey and Britney Spears are excited to see what the sampling of ‘Lucky’ sounds like and have praised Halsey for seeking permission before using Spears’ musical material. The new track is expected to attract a new audience to Spears’ music and highlight her ongoing impact on contemporary pop music
