James Corden and Ruth Jones have confirmed the completion of the script for the final episode of Gavin and Stacey. The BBC sitcom, which quickly became a cult classic, aired between 2007 to 2010 before culminating with a festive episode in 2019 where Nessa, played by Jones, proposes to Smithy, played by Corden. The Christmas Day episode ended with a cliffhanger that left viewers on the edge of their seats, leading to calls for a concluding chapter.
Corden revealed that he and Jones finished the final script for the show a while ago. However, they needed to rewrite the script to streamline the plot. The writer’s duo had to deal with lots of logistical issues. Corden said that they have been attempting to make the script as economical as possible, and they finished it a day before the announcement.
The show’s story is set in both Wales and Essex. It follows the lives of the two protagonists, Gavin and Stacey, and their friends and family. The series stars Matthew Horne from Essex as Gavin and Joanna Page from Barry Island in Wales as Stacey. James Corden and Ruth Jones played the couple’s friends, Smithy and Nessa.
