Fans who missed the Bombay Bicycle Club’s Alexandra Palace Park performance will soon be able to watch it on stream. The landmark homecoming event on July 12 featured guest appearances by Rae Morris and Nilüfer Yanya. 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos will be available to stream on the On Air website from August 8, 2024, on mobile and TV apps, giving viewers access for two years – including on demand replay. Pre-orders are available via the link.
Recorded and produced by band member Jack Steadman, the show was particularly special for the four-piece, who said the “stars aligned” just right. “From it being our homecoming gig just around the corner from where we grew up to the beautiful setting to one of the best crowds we’ve ever had.” They added: “It’s something we’ll definitely keep watching over the years to come to relive a truly special evening.”
The sixth and latest album from Bombay Bicycle Club, ‘My Big Day,’ was released last year and included collaborations with Damon Albarn, Chaka Khan, Jay Som, Nilüfer Yanya and Holly Humberstone. A review in NME magazine said: “A creative milestone in itself, it’s a far cry from the four-to-the-floor, teenage guitar band that a whole generation grew up with.”
Guitarist Jamie MacColl told NME at the time of the album’s release that it’s important to move forward and create something “worthwhile”. “We were a teenage band that a lot of people grew up with as teenagers, which is a very important phase in people’s lives – and then we went on hiatus for five years,” he said. “We’re kind of stuck in time for some people, to some extent, which makes it even more important to emphasise there is something worthwhile now with the band.”
