The popular first-person shooter video game, Splitgate, is getting a sequel called Splitgate 2. Players can expect new gameplay features and a modern aesthetic as the game is built using Unreal Engine 5. The game’s developer, 1047 Games, has also revealed the introduction of three playable factions with distinct play styles, deviating from the hero format of its predecessor.
The Titan-like faction is the most armored and can deploy a barrier as cover, while the fast and acrobatic faction can jetpack around the arena. The reconnaissance faction, on the other hand, can support the team with freeze traps and the ability to detect hidden enemies. Though fans cannot say for sure how these abilities work during matches, they are sure to add new dimensions to the game beyond its portals.
Splitgate 2’s official release date has not been announced yet, but it was confirmed to be released in 2025 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. The development team will showcase the game at Gamescom 2024 in August, where it will be playable on Xbox Wire. Based on feedback, there’s the chance of a beta testing phase ahead of an official release date.
Fans of the game are anticipating seeing official gameplay footage, which might come during the Gamescom 2024 showcase. The company is yet to release details on exactly when fans should expect a gameplay reveal.
