Enzo Fernandez, a 23-year-old Chelsea FC star has been found guilty of failing to identify the driver of a Porsche that allegedly ran a red light in Carmarthenshire. The Argentine footballer was charged with withholding information from Dyfed-Powys Police on December 27, 2023.
Chelsea’s Premier League midfielder was declared guilty in absentia during a hearing at Llanelli Magistrates’ court on Wednesday. Fernandez is expected to be sentenced on September 11 at Llanelli.
The magistrates deferred the sentencing hearing to determine if there are extenuating circumstances, such as “exceptional hardship,” which could preclude him from losing his driving privileges.
After being signed by Chelsea in 2023 for a then record-breaking transfer fee of over £106m, Enzo Fernandez played for the Argentine team that won the 2022 World Cup. Fernandez’s home address in court was given as the Chelsea FC training grounds in Surrey.
Fernandez was charged with driving a Porsche Cayenne through a red light on Church Street, Llanelli on November 28, 2023. He was also accused of driving that same vehicle without insurance on the same day. However, no plea was entered on those charges, and they were therefore withdrawn
