A new festival celebrating East and South East Asian culture, Margins United, will take place in Hackney, London on September 28. The 12-hour day and night event is supported by the UK Arts Council and will feature a variety of music, visual art, food, creative installations, talks, workshops, and other activities. Eastern Margins, founded in 2018 as a “home for alternative Asian culture,” is presenting the festival.
Cult hero DJ Love will perform away from his Philippines home for the first time ever, while the festival will also feature a debut UK performance from singer Soo Joo, alongside beatmaker Onra, Malaysian electronic artist Shelhiel, and a DJ set from R&B star No Rome. Gyrofield, a Hong Kong-based drum ‘n’ bass artist, is also scheduled to perform.
The festival will include several one-off interactive performances, including an exclusive debut of LVRA and Soda Plains’ new collaborative project. There will also be performances from South London-based cinematic artist Jianbo, as well as a multimedia mix of spoken word, crowd-based choreography and performance from Meyy.
