Glasgow rock band, Travis, have announced that they will perform a one-off surprise gig on the streets of central London to promote their new album, ‘L.A. Times’. Taking place outside FOPP record store on Earlham Street at 12:30 pm on July 18, the performance is a continuation of the band’s recent busking tour aboard a retro double-decker, where they performed several classic songs in their hometown of Glasgow. In addition to the show, the band will sign records and take pictures with fans.
Travis frontman Fran Healy explained the gig in a statement, saying, “London, your city has long been a big part of the Travis story, and we are so excited to be playing our songs and singing with you tomorrow. Come and see us for a wee hello.” The appearance is one of many events launched to promote the band’s latest studio album, which has already generated significant buzz ahead of the performance.
Travis recently revealed plans to support The Killers on their upcoming UK/EU tour. The band is excited to have the opportunity to open for the popular group, having previously supported Oasis on their Be Here Now Tour in 1997. Healy stated that he loves being a support act, saying it gives him the motivation to “blow them off the stage.”
This is not the band’s first foray into street performances. In addition to their recent Glasgow gigs, Travis has also performed surprise sets in New York City.
