‘Gem Lingo (ovr now)’, a new single from the electronic music duo Overmono, has recently been released on XL Recordings. Featuring a garage-influenced track with a soulful vocal hook by Paul Institute founder Ruthven, this single has already made its debut on BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record with Jack Saunders. It received attention since being played on the same show, with more than 300,000 plays on YouTube and Soundcloud. The single follows the release of the duo’s groundbreaking remix of the 2002 The Streets track ‘Turn The Page’ in April this year, which earned widespread acclaim.
Overmono is set to perform at Reading and Leeds (UK) festivals, Boardmasters, Kalorama (Spain and Portugal), and Flow festival in Finland, with more dates to follow, including their biggest headline shows in London, Manchester, Toronto, and Bristol. The duo have also teased new music for next year with “a lot of good artists,” as they shared in a recent interview with NME. They said they’ve been working on a lot of vocal tracks, leaning towards poppier sounds and that they’re pretty excited about the new direction they’re going in.
The “project,” according to the duo, is “just exploring more options,” instead of being stuck in “just one thing, musically.” As brothers, Truss and Tessela both have solo works and have been producing under the Overmono name for four years. They’ve been recognized for their diverse and experimental music styles, which have been featured in BBC Radio 1, Boiler Room, and more. Now, with critical acclaim and sold-out shows, the duo is excited to push the boundaries even farther and rediscover their own musical styles
