Kesha has recently spoken out about her newfound freedom as an independent artist, which she announced after leaving RCA and Kemosabe Records. She released her debut single ‘Joyride’ as an independent artist on July 4th. In an interview with Forbes, she spoke about how a human being can lose the rights to their recorded voice in perpetuity in the universe, and that she sees changing litigation around this as something that’s on her radar. Kesha has established her new label, Kesha Records, and hopes to build a safe space for artists. Furthermore, she discussed finding innovative tech creators that want to change how the music business works and bring a new level of transparency to the whole business.

Kesha parted ways with Kemosabe Records following a lengthy legal battle with its founder, Dr. Luke. She initially sued him in 2014 claiming he sexually assaulted and emotionally abused her, however, he denied the allegations and countersued her for allegedly breaching her recording contract with him. The pair reached a settlement agreement in June 2023.

Kesha has been teasing new music this year, first, with a cardboard sign in Los Angeles announcing the news. She has since performed her first show as an “independent woman” at WeHo Pride. Kesha has expressed her desire to push boundaries and change the world as an artist.
