The LCR Pride Foundation is encouraging LGBT+ voices to be heard as it reveals plans for Liverpool’s flagship pride festival weekend in 2024. The charity’s annual theme, “Be Heard,” will be front and center of Pride in Liverpool’s programme set to be held from July 26th to 28th. The proceedings will begin with “Pride Classical,” a first-of-its-kind open-air orchestra concert, featuring Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears and a 32-piece orchestra, drag legend Danny Beard and West End stars Alison Jiear and Ashford Campbell. This fundraiser will be followed by “March with Pride,” leading thousands through the city and on to Pride in Liverpool’s festival site on Pier Head.
On July 27th, festival-goers can enjoy a free day of entertainment featuring a lineup of local talent and tribute acts. Among them will be Katrina, formerly of Katrina and the Waves, DJ Dan Walker, Linda Gold of the Funnyboyz, Lolly, and Urban Cookie Collective. The festival will also host a marketplace, food, and drink stands, family-friendly activities, and a dedicated zone for young people and families. This year’s festival will also prioritize accessibility with British Sign Language (BSL) on all stages, and viewing areas adapted for those with accessibility needs.
This year, LCR Pride Foundation is launching an initiative, Pride Spotlight, in support of and featuring LGBT+ artists, which will take place at pop-up stages across the weekend, including Lady Sian, Róis, Sarah, WMNKND, and Gogo Dancers. Visitors will have the option to attend a number of events outside of the festival, including the British Firefighter Challenge, a sporting competition, and The Masquerade Bar’s street party with headlining act The Cheeky Girls.
Foundation CEO Andi Herring has expressed the importance of pride in today’s political climate, saying the event’s goal is to reverse backtracking on LGBT+ rights and push LGBT+ voices to the forefront. As a festival that celebrates fundamental values and human rights, Pride In Liverpool aims to be both a celebration and a protest. The LCR Pride Foundation hopes to raise participation in the tens of thousands and welcomes all for what promises to be a weekend of comedy, art, fun, and entertainment
