Actor Timothée Chalamet has joined the cast of the upcoming movie, “Marty Supreme,” directed by Josh Safdie and produced by A24. The film tells the story of professional ping-pong player Marty Reisman, who gained notoriety as the “wizard of table tennis” after a career that spanned from 1947 to 2002. Reisman won 22 ping-pong titles and five bronze medals at the World Table Tennis Championships. He also became the oldest player to win an open national in a racket sport, at age 67.
Chalamet will also produce the movie, which was written by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein. After distributing Safdie’s last two films, “Uncut Gems” and “Good Time,” A24 will once again help bring the filmmaker’s latest project to the big screen. The company confirmed the news on social media, writing, “Josh Safdie’s MARTY SUPREME starring @RealChalamet. Coming soon.”
Chalamet has been busy with several upcoming projects, including portraying Bob Dylan in the biopic “A Complete Unknown.” The film will also star Elle Fanning and Boyd Holbrook and is centered on Dylan’s transition to using an electric guitar in the ’60s and subsequent rise to fame and iconic status in the folk-rock music industry. Chalamet will showcase his singing abilities once again in the film, having previously sung in the musical movie “Wonka.”
In a recent interview with NME, Chalamet expressed his admiration for Austin Butler’s portrayal of Elvis Presley in the Baz Luhrmann-directed biopic “Elvis.” He even said he would have liked Butler’s version of the icon to appear in “A Complete Unknown.” With back-to-back projects on the horizon, it’s clear that Chalamet is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most sought-after young actors
