The popular comedian and actor, Ricky Gervais, has announced that he will be directing an animated series about a group of cats. The announcement was made on social media, where the star shared an image of the cast recording lines for the new show. Gervais will be working with the cast of his hit TV show, After Life, which includes stars such as Kerry Godliman and Diane Morgan.
The title of the series has not yet been confirmed, and it is not known who will air the show. There is also no word yet on whether or not Netflix – who Gervais has worked with previously – will be involved. The comedian first revealed his plans for the project last year in response to an online question. Gervais admitted in the answer that “It won’t be finished until next year”, but he is confident that it will be a hit.
In addition to the new animated series, Gervais has recently announced his new world tour and Netflix special, Mortality. This show will look at the absurdities of life and death, with Gervais commenting that “We’re all gonna die. May as well have a laugh about it. Bring it on.” His last Netflix special, Armageddon, broke world records for the highest-grossing comedy gig of all time.
Whilst Gervais may be branching into animation, it is clear that he is still committed to performing live stand-up. Mortality marks his return to the stage after a hiatus of several years. Fans of Gervais will be eagerly anticipating his new projects, with both his new series and stand-up tour sure to attract plenty of attention
