Liverpool City Council is in line to receive a £55m boost for the regeneration of the city’s northern docklands. The money will come from Homes England in the form of a Brownfield Infrastructure Land grant, subject to final approval from HM Treasury. The funding applies to Central Docks, the biggest part of the Liverpool Waters neighbourhood and the largest brownfield site in the city, which is owned by regeneration company Peel Waters. The company said the development is anticipated to lead to at least £500m ($618m) of private investment.
The Central Docks area will include approximately 2,350 new homes and a public park. The plans for the 10.5-hectare site, which have received full planning approval, include the network of public spaces, with a focus on greenery. Central Park, a 2.1-hectare green space, will be planted with hundreds of trees, woodland plantations, wetlands and community gardens, as well as having shelters, recreational facilities and wildlife habitats.
