Scottish band Travis made a surprise appearance in Glasgow City Centre, busking on a vintage double decker bus. The visit was in celebration of their latest album, ‘L.A. Times’, which was released on July 12. Fans could spot the band’s frontman Fran Healy on the hop-off back exit as he performed songs from the new album as well as old Travis hits. The bus used for the impromptu bus tour was the same one featured in the band’s music video for their new single ‘Bus’, directed by Healy himself.
As supporters of their hometown, Travis stopped by the Barrowlands Ballroom for a surprise set where they busked in front of a mural depicting ‘L.A. Times’ and its cover artwork. The impromptu bus tour finished at the WEST Brewery at Glasgow Green. Healy said, “It’s been so much fun performing our new music on the streets that made us. Glasgow is a beautiful city. I love it. The people, the music, the spirit, the attitude. There’s nowhere else I’d rather be to celebrate our 10th album release.”
The band recently opened for The Killers for their UK/EU tour. In an interview with the NME about their new album, Healy spoke about its lead single ‘Gaslight’, revealing his recent personal experiences of it. Healy explains that you “get it in schools, you get it in the police, you get it with politicians […] it’s always been everywhere.” He encourages people to rid themselves of it, saying “It’s not nice to be on the receiving end of it but it’s nice to be emancipated from it. To rid yourself of it.”
In addition to speaking out about ‘Gaslight’, the band encouraged support for buskers. Travis fans rallied behind the band, urging people to offer their support to all street performers, sharing their own positive experiences of Glasgow’s many talents
