A team of volunteers from Signi Zoekhonden, a non-profit organization in the Netherlands, is preparing to conduct another search for missing British tourist Jay Slater in Tenerife. With about 20 years of experience in searching for missing individuals, the team has deployed five people and four dogs on the island and will use drones, subject to local authorities’ permission. The Dutch group recently contacted Slater’s family after reading about his case and has deployed volunteers to help find him. Slater, 19, has been missing since June 17, when he informed friends that he was lost in a mountainous area and had only 1% battery left on his phone.
British police conducted a search operation around the village of Masca, where Slater was last seen after a night out, but were unable to locate him. Since then, the investigation into Slater’s disappearance has continued. Slater’s mother, Debbie Duncan, said the “generosity” of contributors to a crowdfunding page had made it possible for the Dutch team to be deployed. Slater, who is from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, was in Tenerife to attend a music festival. He reportedly entered a car with two British males he met during his holiday and ended up at an Airbnb in Masca.
However, Slater’s friends, Brad Hargreaves and Lucy Law, received a call from him the next morning, informing them that he had missed his bus while on his way back and would have to walk. His cell phone later went dead, and despite subsequent investigations by the police, there has been no information on his whereabouts. Slater’s friends have since appealed for information, with the police continuing their investigation. Meanwhile, the Dutch team believes they can do more to help with the search. They are also optimistic that the dogs can locate Slater, dead or alive. The group plans to conduct a five-and-a-half-day search on the island
