On what would have been his 53rd birthday, MF DOOM’s widow Jasmine Dumile, paid tribute to the legendary rapper. In the message shared on social media, Jasmine thanked her late husband for bringing so much joy and laughter into their lives, showing “courage, wisdom, overstanding, patience and strength, lyrical genius, and crazy sense of humor.” She also thanked him for letting his light shine and opening up his heart to let others be a part of his world.
The underground rapper with a cult following, whose real name was Daniel Dumile, died on October 31, 2020, at the age of 49. The cause of death was revealed later to be a condition known as angioedema, which was a severe reaction to his blood pressure medication.
In the wake of his death, Jasmine has kept DOOM’s legacy alive and has been fighting to protect his intellectual property. Last year, she sued the rapper’s former A&R Eothen “Egon” Alapatt for copyright infringement, fraud, intentional misrepresentation, and unjust enrichment because he did not return 31 of the rapper’s personal notebooks he had taken into his possession six years prior.
Since DOOM’s passing, several people in the music industry have been paying tribute to the rap icon. A posthumous feature on ‘Cheat Codes’ – an album made by Danger Mouse and Black Thought – and plans for a biography, called The Chronicles of DOOM: Unraveling Rap’s Masked Iconoclast, written by veteran music journalist S.
