Liverpool musician Jamie Webster put on a dazzling homecoming concert at Sefton Park in the city, inviting some friends from the music industry onstage to perform covers of popular hits, as well as some original pieces. The event was attended by numerous fans, including The Royle Family’s Ricky Tomlinson who gave a fiery speech about Liverpool prior to Webster’s performance of ‘Voice of the Voiceless’.
Webster invited a number of popular musicians onstage, including singer-songwriter Brooke Combes for a rendition of Talking Heads’ ‘This Must be the Place (Naive Melody)’. The Zutons’ Dave McCabe joined the stage for a cover of the band’s iconic hit ‘Valerie’, while Echo & the Bunnymen’s lead singer Ian McCulloch helped with ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’, which was released in 1997.
Webster closed out the guest portion of the concert with The Real Thing’s ‘You to Me Are Everything’ – with the band being invited but not in attendance.
The concert’s setlist had a lively mix of Webster’s original songs including ‘Fickle Fran’ as well as familiar hits like ‘Valerie’ and ‘This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)’. The concert received widespread praise from attendees and was lauded as a brilliant mix of the old and new from Webster.
