Eurotunnel LeShuttle: Delays at Folkestone terminal

Travellers using Eurotunnel LeShuttle to reach various European countries have been warned of delays at the UK terminal. In Folkestone, check-in went through a delay of 90 minutes and an additional 30-minute delay at border control on Saturday morning. Eurotunnel has offered an apology for the extended wait and informed travellers that if they missed their travel time, they would be accommodated as soon as possible. In the afternoon, while the check-in delays were resolved, departure delays of around an hour continued. LeShuttle’s website updated travellers on the Beachborough entrance closure for A20, advising them to use the M20 and access the terminal through Junction 11A.

Off-duty BBC home affairs correspondent, Daniel Sandford, who was also among the delayed passengers at the Folkestone terminal, shared: “It has been absolute chaos. It seemed normal until about 06:30 BST and then suddenly it wasn’t normal. It was clear the French passport system is not working. It took us a couple of hours to get from the terminal to the passport gates, rather than 10 mins.” Moreover, he mentioned that terminal staff shared the delays’ reason was due to France’s newly introduced passport system.

Traveller, Joyce Maguire, who journeyed from the Lake District on Friday night and needed to reach France’s Loire Valley by lunchtime on Saturday, shared her experience: “I’m hoping to make it by the evening now. We stayed in a local hotel and got up early so we can get on our way as we are moving house. The traffic isn’t moving and there is no information on the display boards. People seem to be chilling out and are taking time to stand outside their cars.”

Eurotunnel, LeShuttle’s representatives, have not shared any additional information regarding this delay.

For people planning to travel to the terminal, bear in mind that drivers can only access the terminal with advanced bookings. It will not be possible to purchase tickets at check-in
