Or:la, the Irish DJ and music producer, has announced the release of her debut album ‘Trusting Theta’. The album is due to be launched on the ‘fabric Originals’ label on September 20th, following on from her previous release of ‘Fired Up’. A new single called ‘Chant’ has been released alongside the news, which features Or:la’s own vocals and the lyrics are inspired by her experiences of London nightlife and hedonism.
The album features a set of high profile collaborations, including famed chart-topper Eliza Rose, poetry from fellow Derry-born artist SOAK, and conversation with Mary Lake on ‘Cooking Up Pepper Spray’. ‘Trusting Theta’ explores themes of identity and female rage while documenting Or:la’s story of “breaking free from the suffocating energy of rural Ireland as a young girl to the relatable reality of modern life and all its complexities.” The album is an exploration of Or:la’s personal experience, covering the sticky hangover of growing up in latent sectarianism and religious order.
Or:la has managed to make a name for herself in the music industry, having previously acted as a promoter for the La Potion queer parties, as well as being a label manager through her Céad imprint. The imprint saw the release of NIKS’ debut EP, which was recently announced.
In celebration of ‘Trusting Theta’, Or:la will be playing sets at various shows and festivals this summer. She is set to perform at Dekmantel and Houghton; other dates will also be announced.
