Authorities are on a manhunt after two suitcases were found at the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol containing human remains. A report had been made to police on Wednesday evening at 23:57 BST after a man was seen acting suspiciously on the bridge before he left the area leaving a suitcase behind. A second suitcase was found shortly after. The police’s initial priority was to locate the man and identify the human remains. The roads and footpaths around the bridge remain closed while investigators examine the scene.
According to Avon and Somerset Police, the man was taken to the bridge in a taxi. The taxi driver’s vehicle has been seized and is being scrutinised by investigators. The taxi driver is also helping officers. A police helicopter was tracked over the bridge on the same evening, and an increased police presence was put in place at the scene.
Acting Bristol Commander, Vicks Hayward-Melen has assured the public that specialist officers are being deployed to support the deceased’s next of kin. A post-mortem examination would take place later on Thursday, she added.
Reporter, Beth Cruse, stated that the network lines were down, but there were an estimated three police officers stationed at the Bristol side of the Suspension Bridge, who are redirecting pedestrians away from the scene. The police are still investigating the incident.
