Euro 2024: ’Three Lions’ tipped for UK Number One as England reach final

As England reaches the Euro 2024 final, betting company William Hill predicts that the football anthem ‘Three Lions’ will reach #1 on the UK music charts. Along with ‘Three Lions’, William Hill expects two other songs to compete for the top spot: Neil Diamond’s ‘Sweet Caroline’ and Fat Les’ ‘Vindaloo’. Last night, England secured their place in the final against Spain in a thrilling match ending with a last-minute goal from Ollie Watkins.

William Hill expects the three songs to collectively have odds of 3/1 to take the top spot, stating that “Three Lions” has already reached #1 in three different years throughout three decades. If England wins the tournament, there will undoubtedly be a spike in sales and streams of England’s classic anthems. William Hill predicts that any of these songs could reach the top spot with 3/1 odds, and it’s odds-on at 10/11 that at least one of these anthems will make the top 10 in July.

‘Three Lions’ was initially released in 1996 and broke records when it reached #1 during the World Cup in 2018. The song made history by being the first to score four spells at the top of the charts with the same artist line-up. A new version of the song was released in 2022 with a special festive edition by David Baddiel, Ian Broudie, and Frank Skinner. However, Baddiel hinted at retiring the song after the England Women’s win in Euro 2022, stating that “The women have reset the clock.”

In other news, The Killers paused their London show during the last five minutes of the Euros semifinals to watch England’s win. After the game, the band celebrated by performing their hit ‘Mr Brightside’. It seems everywhere you go in the UK right now, football fever is in full swing, and the music industry is no exception
