William Stover, the famous producer behind the Chicago house classic ‘I’ll Never Let You Go’, has passed away. Chuck E., a friend and fellow producer, confirmed the news with a post on Facebook, stating that “We lost another great House Legend, William ‘Chubby’ Stover.” According to Chip E., Stover had many health issues and surgeries leading up to his death, which occurred on July 6th.
Stover was most well-known for his single ‘I’ll Never Let You Go,’ released under his pseudonym William S on Trax Records in 1987. He also worked with Lindell Townsell, releasing under the name Two Of A Kind on labels such as Trax, West Madison Street Records, and Housetime Records.
In Chuck E.’s tribute to Stover, he recounted that they were introduced in 1985 by Trax veteran Carl Bias. After that meeting, Lidell and Chubby became Chuck E.’s left and right hands for live performances and music production. DJ, producer, and JAM98 Music director Hugo Hutchinson also shared his condolences, adding that Stover was behind much more music than most people realized.
Stover’s passing is truly a loss to the house music community. Chuck E. expressed his condolences to Stover’s family, friends, and fans, writing: “He will be greatly missed in the community. Love you Bro. RIP.
