Katy Perry has announced her forthcoming sixth album, entitled ‘143,’ which is set to be released on September 20. The album’s cover art shows Perry appearing to float amid a pink and blue whirlwind. Through her social media accounts, Perry revealed that “143” represents the code for “I love you,” which was frequently used in the early 1990s in messages sent through pagers. Pre-orders for the album are now available.
“I set out to create a bold, exuberant, celebratory dance-pop album with the symbolic 143 numerical expression of love as a throughline message,” Perry explained in a statement released via Variety. The reveal of the album title and release date precedes the premiere of “Woman’s World,” Perry’s comeback single, which is set for release on July 11.
The lead single, which will also be included in ‘143,’ has already been teased by Perry through her TikTok account, where she has already shared a snippet of the track. “Sexy, confident / So intelligent / She is heaven sent / So soft / So strong,” she sings over a bouncy pop beat.
In May, Perry began hinting at her return to music by changing her profile picture. Additionally, she teased “one of [her] biggest songs that has yet to come out” during an American Idol event. Last December, it was reported that the pop icon would release her “most personal” material yet in 2024, along with plans for a world tour.
Perry’s fifth studio album, ‘Smile,’ was released in 2020 and received two stars in review from NME. “All in all, ‘Smile’ lacks the fireworks of Perry’s record-breaking years,” the review said
