Declan Connell: Police pursuit death crash driver named

A man who died in a car crash following a police pursuit in Stirling has been identified as Declan Connell, 27, from Falkirk. The incident happened at around 11:50 pm on Sunday, on the M9 motorway between junctions 8 and 9. Police Scotland said the car, a white Vauxhall Corsa driven by Connell towards the south, had been involved in a pursuit by police officers in the Stirling area before the crash. The car went down an embankment and Connell was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the car, aged 19 and 20, were taken to the Forth Valley Royal Hospital for medical examination.

Police Scotland has referred the circumstances surrounding the collision to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner. Ch Insp Mark Patterson said that the force is appealing to any witnesses, particularly those with dash-cam footage, to come forward and provide any relevant information. Patterson also added, “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has died, and extensive inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened.”

The investigation is ongoing, and the public is encouraged to share any information that could assist the police in determining what happened before and during the chase. A thorough examination of the events that led to the crash will be done, and a report will be submitted to the commissioner for further review.
