AJ Tracey has revealed that his forthcoming album, inspired by dancehall, will be funky and feature a number of big-name artists. Speaking on Capital XTRA Breakfast, the West London rapper confirmed that his third studio album will definitely be released this year. Though he wouldn’t reveal too much about who will feature, he said, “A few features but they’re curated. I’ve just picked people who sound good on the record. Tracey’s new album is expected to explore what it means to be British from his perspective as a black British person. “Me growing up, I listened to funky, so that rhythm is like a little funky reference,” he said. “Grime, obviously, dancehall, like whatever my influences are as a black British person is going to be what the album sounds like.”
The rapper’s new album is also expected to feature as-yet unnamed surprise moments and guests. Reviewing Tracey’s last album, Flu Game, NME rated it with four stars, writing, “Flu Game cements AJ Tracey as a commercially successful rapper still discovering new ways to craft hooks and clever wordplay. Although not every track is a total slam dunk, AJ has here crafted another successful project whose streaming numbers, singles and infectious melodies will live on in memory – just like Michael Jordan’s infamous match.”
Recently, the rapper now features in Headie One’s latest album, The Last One. Tracey appeared on the track “Make A W” with Skrillex and BEAM
