Iain Cook, a member of Chvrches, has unveiled his remix of the 1993 track ‘Linger’ by The Cranberries. Cook used the stems from the original track to rearrange the chords and ensure the remix stayed true to the vocal tone of Cranberries’ lead singer Dolores O’Riordan. He describes hearing O’Riordan’s isolated vocal track as “magical” and was daunted by the prospect of remixing the classic song. Cook was a long-time fan of the track and built the remix around the vocals to shake off preconceptions about the song, which he had loved for over 30 years.

Drummer of the Cranberries, Fergal Lawler, offered reassurance to Cook by complimenting his remix in a statement, saying he “reimagined the song completely, creating a fresh and upbeat version of this classic”. Lawler also noted O’Riordan’s original vocal tracks were “beautiful and vulnerable at times” and expressed his belief that she would have appreciated the remix.

The Cranberries’ debut album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?, which featured ‘Linger’, was released in 1993. The track has remained popular, with artists such as Reneé Rapp covering it earlier this year and Bambie Thug sharing their cover ahead of the Eurovision finale.

Last year, Lauren Mayberry, the lead singer of Chvrches, performed a solo tour in which she gave a unique cover for each city she visited. She performed a wide array of covers, including Madonna and The 1975, as well as Depeche Mode’s ‘Personal Jesus’ in Prague
