Liam Mitchell, a 26-year-old man from Dundee, has been arrested following an incident at Glasgow’s SWG3 club last December. Mitchell had gone to the club for a friend’s birthday, but was refused entry. According to Glasgow Times, he then tried to punch a man but missed and hit a woman’s arm. When door security intervened, he reportedly kicked the woman and punched her in the head, before also assaulting the security staff who restrained him.
Although placed in handcuffs by police officers, Mitchell attempted to break free and had to be restrained again. During this, he allegedly tried to kick a police officer and bite his thumb. Mitchell was hospitalised for an injury to his head and later discharged. Following an investigation, he was arrested and charged with four offences, including assaults on a woman, a security guard, and two police officers.
On June 19, Mitchell appeared in front of a judge at Glasgow Sheriff Court, where he pleaded guilty to all charges. In mitigation, Mitchell’s lawyer stated that Mitchell was “ashamed” of his behavior and that part of the blame lay with the alcohol and drugs he had taken. Specifically, while waiting in the queue, Mitchell was offered an illicit substance, which he took, causing him to become aggressive.
As part of his sentence, Mitchell was placed on home arrest between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. for 40 days. His lawyers confirmed that he had “no previous convictions”. SWG3 has not yet commented on the incident, but Mixmag has reached out for a statement.
It was previously reported that another incident occurred at SWG3 in October 2023, when a teenager became ill and later died after attending the club. It is not known if there is any connection between the incidents
