Singer Halsey has given her fans a sneak peek of her latest single, which features a sample of Britney Spears’s 2000 hit, ‘Lucky’. The songstress posted a short video clip on Instagram in which she can be heard singing a slightly adapted version of Spears’s original lyrics. “But I’m so lucky, I’m a star / But I cry, cry, cry in the lonely heart thinking / If there’s nothing missing in my life / Then why do these tears come at night?,” Halsey sang. Her new single borrows its name from Spears’s track title.
The original ‘Lucky’ single was released in 2000 and featured on Spears’s album, ‘Oops! I Did It Again’. The song is about an actress, also called Lucky, who seems to have everything going for her but still feels lonely and unhappy. Halsey, who has previously played around with various musical genres, has been teasing forthcoming new material via a cryptic website called ‘For My Last Trick’. Visitors to the site can explore various antique objects and vintage-themed items, as well as stickers with phrases such as ‘You Won’t Find Me Here’, ‘Candy’, and ‘Master Mystifier’.
Halsey has twice battled serious health issues. She released the single ‘The End’ earlier this year and told fans she felt “lucky to be alive” after experiencing difficulties with her health. Halsey later confirmed she suffered from lupus and T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. Writing on her Instagram account, the singer said that both conditions were being managed but would likely feature in the rest of her life. She said she looked forward to singing and performing live once more.
Twenty-four-year-old Halsey has enjoyed extraordinary success since she first burst onto the pop scene in 2014. She has sold millions of albums and singles worldwide, won numerous awards, and been praised for her unique voice and willingness to explore new musical avenues. Fans of Halsey and Britney Spears will no doubt be excited about the prospect of two pop icons coming together on one track
