The anime series “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba” is set to conclude with a trilogy of films, according to sources. The TV series’ “Hashira Training Arc” ended in July 2021, and fans have been wondering what would come next. Distributors of the series, Crunchyroll, have confirmed the upcoming three-part cinematic event, which will showcase the final arc and should provide a conclusion to the series.
The three forthcoming “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle” films will be an exclusive airing at cinemas, Crunchyroll has confirmed, with the distribution worldwide handled by them and Sony Pictures Entertainment. However, select Asian territories, including Japan, will be excluded. No air date has been given yet for the films.
“Demon Slayer” first aired in 2019 and has become increasingly popular, garnering a global audience and spawning concentrated feature films and even a video game. When released in 2020, the feature film “Mugen Train” made an incomparable showing at the box office and reportedly took in over $450 million, becoming the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time.
The story of “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba” centers on a young man on a quest to turn his demon-slaying sister back to human form. It is based on a manga series of 23 volumes by Koyoharu Gotoge, published under Shueisha’s Jump Comics imprint. The series has sold over 150 million copies worldwide.
In a recent interview with NME, leading voice actor in the series Natsuki Hanae credited “Demon Slayer”‘s universal themes for its popularity. “Family, the bonds between siblings… People everywhere can relate,” he said. “I think that must be what’s vibrating through the whole world.
