Saturday at Glastonbury 2024 saw Coldplay make history with their headline set, while Kasabian performed a secret set at Woodsies. Following weeks of speculation, the Leicester band finally confirmed they would be playing at 6pm. Frontman Serge Pizzorno promised “a powerful hour,” packed with classics, new tracks and high energy. Fans crowded the venue, and many were turned away. During their set, Fat White Family’s Lias Saoudi decided to throw a jab at Joe Talbot before their song ‘I Am Mark E Smith,’ with Saoudi announcing, “This is a song about my feminist zeal – it’s called ‘I am Joe Talbot’.” Talbot had performed a day earlier and led a chant of “Fuck the King!” Saoudi replied in his set with “God save the King! F*** off.”
Orbital, one of the dance industry’s legendary duos, played at Glastonbury for the seventh time. On stage, they invited Spice Girl Melanie C and actress Tilda Swinton to join them. Swinton helped to open Orbital’s set with ‘Deeper,’ while Melanie C appeared later in the set for a performance of ‘Spicy.’
During Coldplay’s performance, Hollywood star Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg were spotted leading the crowd singalong of ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger,’ a song by Oasis. Chris McQuarrie and actress Gillian Anderson joined them for the singalong. Simon Pegg acted as the conductor of the crowd. The performance was a highlight of the weekend, and fans who missed out will no doubt be disappointed
