At Glastonbury 2024, Gossip’s electric set has been well received by fans online and offline alike, which was a culmination of hits from various albums including ‘Standing In The Way Of Control’, ‘Heavy Cross’ and ‘Move In The Right Direction’. During the performance, the band also dedicated the song to oppressed individuals and voiced their criticism of the US government. Beth Ditto, the frontwoman of the band, shared her perspective on playing at the event in 2008 and not knowing what it was. She also acknowledged the recent US Presidential debate, which left her disheartened and speechless.
In addition to these discussions, Ditto expressed her feelings on the 2016 win by Donald Trump. She then encouraged the festival attendees to create change by taking a stand against the oppressors. Ditto gave a shoutout to various groups, including feminists, queers and working-class individuals. The band ended the gig with their hit ‘Standing In The Way Of Control,’ with Ditto shouting, “Free Palestine and fuck TERFs.”
Following the concert, fans took to social media to share their reviews and thoughts. Many of them praised Ditto for being a genuine icon, with one Twitter user writing, “I literally could not love her more. That’s how it’s done.” Another fan acknowledged that Gossip, especially Beth Ditto, was an inspiration to them as a queer artist.
Other artists who still have yet to perform at Glastonbury include Janelle Monáe, SZA, Avril Lavigne, Two Door Cinema Club, The National, Romy, Justice, and Nia Archives. Camila Cabello and Dua Lipa also had stellar performances at the event, scoring high ratings from NME
