Shots fired at XL bully in Eccles street after woman attacked

Police officers have disclosed that a woman was injured in an assault by what was described as an XL bully. Greater Manchester Police received multiple reports that a potentially dangerous dog was wreaking havoc on Gladstone Road, Eccles, at 21:00 BST on Friday. Members of the public and police claimed that the dog was out of control and that its attacks posed a significant danger to human life; they were consequently unable to bring it back under control. Because of this, the armed police on the scene were forced to dispose of the dog on site.

A GMP spokesperson stated that the officers used the last method of resort to destroy the dog due to the threat and danger that the dog would cause, especially since it was considered a restricted breed. The woman is currently receiving medical attention for her injuries, while two men have been apprehended by the police for resisting arrest. On social media, a video was posted showing police officers pursuing the dog and firing seven shots at it.

Several local residents expressed consternation at the events. One resident, who had his car struck by a bullet, expressed surprise and alleged that the police had overreacted. He stated that he did not anticipate spotting an officer running down his street and firing on a dog. He added that the gunshots had damaged a number of other vehicles parked on his street. GMP is still waiting for feedback about the response of the officers.

The XL bullies were subject to constraints for ownership earlier this year, under which they were required to be muzzled and kept on a lead in public. The police spokesperson stated that after the locals and police were unable to subdue the dog, its destruction was the last resort due to the risks it posed as a forbidden breed. The spokesperson further said that the police had a responsibility to function when unwanted circumstances arose. They added that the officers would determine who owned the dog
