Kings of Leon have confirmed that they will not be appearing at Glastonbury this year. Yesterday, the band had posted a cryptic message on their Instagram account, leading to speculation that they planned to perform a secretive screening at the festival. However, bassist Jared Followill appeared to debunk the rumour in a tweet later in the day that stated: ‘Everybody keeps telling me we’re playing a secret gig at Glastonbury today. Somebody has to tell our manager, booking agent, singer, etc.. ASAP.’ The band are due to perform in London tomorrow, so it seems unlikely that they would change their plans at the eleventh hour to appear at Glastonbury.
Kasabian have been announced as the final band to fill one remaining ‘to-be-announced’ (TBA) slot at Glastonbury. The band will take to the Woodsies stage at 6pm tonight. It has been suggested that the lack of remaining TBAs still to be announced means that Kings Of Leon are highly unlikely to appear at the festival. While it has been a surprise-filled event so far, with PJ Harvey starting her set with an Abramovich-style seven-minute silence and Damon Albarn appearing on stage with Bombay Bicycle Club to discuss Palestine and the UK general election, it looks as though fans won’t be treated to a surprise performance by Kings of Leon.
Last year’s festival had a surprise set from the Foo Fighters under the name “The Churnups”, playing on the Pyramid Stage. However, given that Jared Followill himself has shot down the rumours, it seems as though Glastonbury-goers will need to look elsewhere for a surprise act this year.
Followers were treated to a snippet of Kings of Leon’s previous performance at Glastonbury – at which they played in 2008 – on the band’s Instagram page yesterday. The band are earmarked to perform in London tomorrow at British Summer Time Hyde Park
