Dua Lipa delivered an electrifying performance in her long-awaited headline slot at Glastonbury, packed with hits from beginning to end. The pop superstar took to the Pyramid Stage just after 10 pm, opening with a confident delivery of her first five songs, including One Kiss, Illusion, and Break My Heart. Over the course of her set, she sang 15 top 40 hits, including Physical and New Rules, as well as her collaborations with Elton John and Mark Ronson.
Despite not including her chart-topping song, Dance The Night, Lipa’s raspy vocals were outstanding throughout her performance, especially during the dramatic ballad Happy For You and the purring, sensuous Houdini, which closed out her set. While wearing a Shakespear’s Sister T-shirt, she paid tribute to one of Glastonbury’s first-ever female headliners from 1992.
During her set, Lipa repeatedly talked about how she had manifested this moment, having dreamt of headlining Glastonbury before even recording her first album. “I’ve written this moment down and wished for it and dreamt it and worked so hard. I’m really honored to be the first woman since Adele to headline this Pyramid Stage alone,” she said. Almost 100,000 people watched her set, which is a huge crowd for the Pyramid Stage. Fans filled the area beyond Rowmead, which was previously reserved for campers.
Lipa’s goal was to turn Glastonbury into a nightclub, and she fulfilled that promise throughout her performance. Even the outfits were planned to complement the club theme, with the outfits of her dancers blending in with hers. Her explosive performance included fireworks and confetti and was beautifully choreographed to keep the audience engaged. One of the highlights of the night was when Kevin Parker, from Tame Impala, joined Dua to perform their popular song The Less I Know The Better.
In conclusion, Lipa’s Glastonbury performance was the epitome of a well-packaged and well-choreographed show filled with hits from beginning to end, though she left out her chart-topping hit Dance The Night. Lipa seemed to be genuinely happy with the turnout and enjoyed performing for the huge crowd. Needless to say, her performance was outstanding and will be remembered for a long time
