Yesterday (June 27), a lawsuit was filed in the California District Court against DJ Diplo, in which his plaintiff claims he distributed explicit videos and photos of her to another woman. In court papers seen by Rolling Stone, the woman alleged that Diplo, whose real name is Thomas Wesley Pentz, began sending her sexual images two months before they began a sexual relationship in June of 2016 when she was 21 and stayed in contact with him for seven years.
The lawsuit claims that though the sexual encounters had consensually been filmed in the past, the woman had made it clear that all videos and photos would remain private. However, in October 2018, the woman received a message from a third party that they had sexual videos and images of her that had been sent via Snapchat, which Diplo allegedly continued to disclose and distribute through the present.
After said incident, the woman filed a police report in New York on November 7. The NYPD later confirmed that “there is a criminal complaint on file” for dissemination of intimate images and/or videos depicting the woman by a suspect with the name Thomas Pentz being investigated by police detectives. This is not the first time Diplo has been accused of circulating revenge porn.
In 2020, another accuser claimed that Diplo circulated footage of their sexual encounters without her consent and groomed her. A restraining order was granted against Diplo after an explicit photo of the person made its way onto Twitter and he was ordered to delete all copies of her photos. Diplo strongly denied this in 2021 and won $1.2million against the accuser in fees, damages, costs and expenses.
Another woman filed a separate lawsuit accusing Diplo of sexual assault in July 2021, which was later dropped. Diplo denied each allegation. If you need help, advice or more information regarding sexual harassment, assault, and rape, visit the Rape Crisis charity website or RAINN
