Dr Disrespect, also known as Herschel Beahm, has been a prominent presence in the gaming world for over a decade. His outspoken streams and co-founding of blockchain game studio Midnight Society have contributed to his significant following. After he was mysteriously banned from Twitch in 2020, he pivoted to YouTube. Recently, there have been allegations that Dr Disrespect was banned from Twitch for messaging a minor using Twitch’s whisper function. In response to the news, he confirmed that he would be taking an indefinite break from content creation.
Dr Disrespect got his start under the name “Diarrhea Panic” by trash talking other players using Halo 2’s proximity chat. He began to gain prominence in 2010 when he launched the Dr Disrespect persona with Call of Duty compilations on YouTube before partnering with the gaming channel Machinima. He eventually worked with Sledgehammer Games as a level designer and community manager before leaving in 2015 to focus on his streaming career. Dr Disrespect became one of Twitch’s most significant personalities and was known for his streams featuring battle royal games.
In June of 2020, Twitch shut down Dr Disrespect’s channel, claiming that it had received “evidence” that he had violated its Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. It was later claimed that Dr Disrespect had been banned because he had been inappropriately messaging a minor on the platform’s whisper messaging function. After news of the allegations, Dr Disrespect shared a long statement on social media, confirming that he had been banned for messaging a minor via Twitch.
Following the news of the allegations, Dr Disrespect’s partnership with Midnight Society was terminated, and he announced that he would be taking a break from streaming. However, he has indicated that he will return eventually, saying, “I’m not the same guy that made this mistake all those years ago. I’m taking an extended vacation with my family as mentioned on stream and I’m coming back with a heavy weight off my shoulders. They want me to disappear… yeah fucking right.
