Organisers of Glastonbury 2024 have launched a new immersive area at the festival called the Woodsies, where festival-goers can “find themselves”. The Tree Stage is an outdoor area located beneath an oak tree décor canopy that includes LED screens and state-of-the-art soundsystem that’s designed to create an immersive, ambient, and experimental experience. The area is described as a “playground for sound” that promises an “audio-visual spectacle”. The Woodsies area is expected to see performances and events from artists that include Jon Hopkins, Merlin Sheldrake, and Ana Roxanne.
Speaking to NME, area organiser Lilith Piper said that the Tree Stage was designed to integrate sound and space into a new listening experience that “literally” takes place in the trees. Additionally, the Tree Stage’s main performances will take place in darkness after Woodsies’ main stage headliners have finished running until 3 am on Friday and Saturday, and 2:30 am on Sunday. Piper added that festival-goers that step beneath the canopy can “find a space to be dissolved into; a space where it’s about finding yourself, not losing yourself”.
The Tree Stage is built around a 300-year-old oak tree that Piper describes as a symbol of the organisers’ connection with Avalon and the Somerset landscape. The area’s organisers believe that the magic of the Tree Stage is that it was resurrected and placed in the Woodsies area to become an integral part of a greater, more immersive experience for festival-goers.
The Glastonbury 2024 festival has already opened its gates, with headliners like Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and SZA, set to perform across the weekend alongside other artists like LCD Soundsystem, PJ Harvey, and Anne-Marie. The Woodsies area is expected to provide an immersive and magical experience to festival-goers looking for something unique at the Glastonbury 2024 festival
