André 3000 announces ‘New Blue Sun’ US autumn dates

André 3000, the Outkast rapper, has unveiled plans for a new concert tour in the US, in support of his latest experimental flute album ‘New Blue Sun’. The album was released in November last year, marking his first solo album in 17 years. After an earlier US tour this year, André will hit the road again in September, kicking off in New Orleans and hitting a variety of cities, including Houston, Seattle, Vancouver and Salt Lake City. The tour will conclude with a final date in Atlanta in November. The announcement of the tour comes after André 3000 confirmed festival dates in Europe, including All Points East, Øyafestival, and We Out Here 2024, in which he will perform alongside Sampha, Corrine Bailey Rae and others.

In an interview with NME, André previously touched on why he decided to make the experimental flute album, instead of a rap album. He stated that sometimes it feels inauthentic for him to rap, given his age and lack of experience with certain subjects. “And things that happen in my life, like, what are you talking about?” he continued. “‘I got to go get a colonoscopy’. What are you rapping about? ‘My eyesight is going bad’. You can find cool ways to say it, but….” This recent announcement follows the revelation that André 3000 is currently working on a collaboration with the mysterious music collective, SAULT, and the Woohah festival news that his former hip-hop project, Outkast, are working on new music.

Ticket sales for André 3000’s ‘New Blue Sun’ tour began on June 26th and tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster. This tour is one of many that various musicians have recently announced, as live concert tours resume following the pandemic’s hold on the music industry.
