This year marks the 25th anniversary of the release of ’90s classic rave movie ‘Human Traffic’, and it will be celebrated with two takeovers at Glastonbury Festival. The film portrays a night out during the UK rave golden era from the pub to the club and the afters, and features actors such as John Simm, Shaun Parkes, Danny Dyer, Lorraine Pilkington, Andrew Lincoln, and more. Written and directed by Justin Kerrigan, the film was released in 1999.
The film was re-released on Apple TV earlier this year to mark its 25th anniversary, and there are plans for a sequel in the works that will reference Brexit. The two Human Traffic takeovers will be held at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. The first will be on the early hours of Saturday morning at The Park’s ale pub The Cornish Arms, followed by a “Human Traffic set” by Loop Dee Loop from 1:AM to 2:AM, with people encouraged to “wear your hi-vis.”
The second takeover will be the following night during Arcadia’s roaming The Bug stage, where festival-goers can experience the “Human Traffic x Save Our Scene” takeover from 5:30:PM to 9:PM. The line-up consists of artists such as DJ Boring, Sim0ne, Shosh b2b Zero, Dan Shake, and Loop Dee Loop. The collaboration with Save Our Scene aims to address the drastic changes to the UK’s nightlife industry due to the rapid collapse of its pubs, clubs, and bars, which may signal the end of youthful hedonism and culture portrayed in ‘Human Traffic’.
The film’s relevance today is due to club culture being at its essence and resonating with audiences even in contemporary times. With the announcement of the film’s sequel in the works and its 25th-anniversary celebrations, ‘Human Traffic’ is still a nostalgic favorite in the UK.
