The Loop harm reduction organization has issued warnings about “super-strength pills” ahead of the Glastonbury Festival 2024 in the United Kingdom. The pills contain up to three times an average dose of MDMA and are said to be potentially fatal if taken. So far, The Loop has tested more than 150 products sold as MDMA and found that the average strength of pills has significantly increased back to the pre-pandemic levels. One in ten pills tested had a strength of more than 250mg, which is three times the average dose of MDMA.
The organization has launched a campaign called #SizeMatters, which draws attention to high-strength ecstasy pills that are often bigger in size. The total weight of the pill can be a simple indicator of high-strength pills. The Loop has therefore advised extra caution in the use of these pills.
Concerned individuals are calling for more drug testing to be available at the festival to prevent the use of super-strength pills. The use of illegal drugs have become rampant at festivals and events, and organizers and authorities must take strict measures to protect attendees.
